So it’s late and you’re ripping out your hair because that term paper you procrastinated is due next week and you got nothing.
Fear not, a TRU librarian is here to save the day!
“We here at the library really want to serve students and meet their learning needs,” said Nancy Leveque, TRU’s library director. “And a good way to do that is to try as much as we can to be where the students are.”
“We have this big building, and we are open until midnight and seven days a week,” Levesque said.
And what’s more, if the TRU library receives 100 legitimate research questions by email by the end of March, on April 1. there will be free cake offered in the library.
“We wanted to promote the fact that the library is online,” Levesque said. “We’ve got email, virtual reference, where you can ask a question online, and we have meebo,” Levesque said. “We try and position the library to be where the students are and when they’re online, on their phone, in the dorms, at the residence, if you are in your apartment, in the computer labs and you suddenly think oh my god I need help here you can email us and we will get back to you so you don’t have to come into the library.”
“If we can get a 100 questions asked to us online we will celebrate and bring in a cake on April 1. to say this is no joke we are going to have free cake in the library,” Levesque said.
It’s just a bit of fun to promote the fact that we can help you,” she said.
All you have to do is submit your question and a librarian will get back to you within 24 hours.
If it’s a quick question a response could be immediate, Levesque explained. “Or if you have to do a major paper we would suggest you book an appointment with us so we could show you the range of online sources, journal articles and books you are going to have to look at; we try to give you everything you need.”
“We don’t care where you are,” she said. “A lot of times we get students frustrated saying ‘I’ve tried everything and I’m stuck.’ That’s fine we will still help you. Or you can say I’m just starting out and I’m clueless I don’t know where to begin. We will help you there to.”
“We had 30 questions from January to February 15,” Leveque said. “By reading break people were hunkering down for big projects,” and that’s when the questions started to come.
“I have every confidence that we will reach our goal of 100 questions.”
