On Thursday, March 25. Infinitus—a music group described as classical but definitely not boring—will be coming to TRU.
Alex Cheung on the cello, Anthony Cheung playing the viola and John H. Littlejohn with violin promise to deliver a lively and varied performance from baroque to vocal beat-box and from Mozart to the moderns.
“We describe our sound as completely original and always changing,” Littlejohn said. “Within one concert we can sound like a standard classical string trio, a jazz sextet (with each of us playing 2 parts), a hip-hop group (with the addition of beatboxing)and basically whatever the music calls for.”
The group is inspired by their love and passion for the music, Littlejohn explained speaking on behalf of Infinitus. “All three of us feel that this is what we were created to do. Also, we like the challenge of thinking outside of the box.”
“We're best friends and we often hear that it reflects in our performances,” Littlejohn said, explaining the group dynamics. “We have as much fun onstage as we do offstage.”
“The thing we enjoy most about playing together is the ability to reach a variety of audiences through music,” he said. “We perform in concert halls, schools, jazz clubs, nursing homes, hospitals, juvenile detention centers, churches and basically, anywhere we can.”
“ We've personally witnessed how music changes lives and it's an honor to be a part of that.”
“While on tour, if we're not working you'll probably find us in a restaurant, passing an electronic game of Monopoly around (on an IPod Touch) while waiting for our food to arrive,” Littlejohn said, although the group doesn’t always have that much freetime.
“We are very excited to be performing at Thompson Rivers University! We love performing for college audiences because they're generally open to hearing new and exciting music.”
Admission will be free when Infinitus performs on Thursday at 12:30 in the TRU Alumni Theatre as part of the cultural events series being presented.
