The first Dean of Students that TRU has ever had will begin her post on May 18.
Christine Adam is originally from 100 Mile House where she graduated from PS Ogden Secondary School before going east for university. She is now returning to the B.C. Interior as TRU’s first ever Dean of Students.
“Supporting university students in the pursuit of their personal and professional goals is my passion,” said Christine Adam. “To be able to return home to British Columbia and work with the team at TRU to create a campus that excels in engaging its students is truly an amazing opportunity.”
Her portfolio will include career education, counseling, English as a second language, disability services and retention and engagement.
“One of her responsibilities will be the first-year experience of students,” said Laurie Thiessen, student recruitment. “Christine is somebody who brings a breath of experience with her proven techniques.”
Adam recently completed a four-year term as the Assistant Dean of First Year Programs in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Carleton University. Prior to that, she was the Associate Director of the Centre for Initiatives in Education, and the Director of the Office of First Year Arts and Social Sciences, also at Carleton University.
Adam has a B.A. in English and a Master of Arts in Applied Language Studies. Her professional career has been focused on supporting and engaging young people in the university environment.
“Everyone who had the opportunity to meet Christine during the interview process was taken with her obvious passion for supporting students” said Peter Hilton, Vice-Provost of students at TRU.
She will officially arrive on campus at TRU on May 18, having accepted a five-year appointment as Dean of Students.
“We have placed great importance on this new position and the role it will play in moving the student services and support side of our university forward in new and exciting ways,” Hilton said. “In Christine Adam, we are delighted to have found a leader who understands how important this is to our university, and who embraces it with enthusiasm that can only inspire those around her.”
