The B.C. government wants TRU students to rock out and find out about their career options.
The Kamloops stop of the rock-themed JobFest 2012 takes place on the campus green in front of Old Main on Sept. 27 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The event will include music from local bands and speakers from youth and area businesses. Headlining the event will be Vancouver band Halfway to Hollywood.
“JobFest is designed to engage and inform young people in B.C. about the variety of career options available to them right here in B.C.,” wrote ministry of jobs spokesperson Andy Watson via email. “We’re reaching out to them in a fun, interactive and engaging manner – with the rock-themed approach – that will hopefully spark some interest and passion for future careers here in B.C.”
JobFest staff will be available to show students how to use job-finding tools and answer questions. Student will also be able to play interactive games and receive prizes throughout the event.
Confirmed to speak at the event are Mike Miltmore, president of Lee’s Music (3 p.m.) Todd Stone, president of software company iCompass and candidate for the B.C. Liberal nomination in Kamloops – South Thompson (5 p.m.) and Kevin Cudmore of the automotive training standards organization (6:30 p.m.).
The JobFest tour, which is part of the provincial government’s Job Plan, will be going to 50 communities within B.C.
